Welcome to this informational space with regards to anaesthesia and your care as a patient

My name is Ana and I will be your anaesthetist during this period.

I obtained my medical degree in New Zealand and spent some time working in Intensive Care in Sydney. During this time, I was fortunate to be involved in the care of heart and lung transplant patients. My anaesthetic training was obtained in sunny Perth on the West Australian training program, where I pursued my interest in anaesthesia for complex adult surgery, trauma and maxillofacial surgery. I spent some time in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and acquired echo skills. In Melbourne, I have been very fortunate to acquire training in Obstetric anaesthesia. I worked at the Austin Health for a decade where I participated in care of adult anaesthesia and sub-specialised in neurosurgical and vascular anaesthesia. During this time, I completed a Masters of Research through Monash and completed a number of projects. You can find my research publications here https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ana-Licina. My current workload involves a leadership position in Anaesthesia Quality at the Eye and Ear Hospital and as a visiting medical officer in many of the private hospitals in Melbourne https://www.linkedin.com/in/dranalicina/?originalSubdomain=au.

Dr Ana Licina MBChB FANZCA PGDipCU MCRM Master of Perioperative Medicine

My aim is to always contact you prior to your procedure and discuss your aims and goals together with the surgical needs for the period of your care. We will answer discuss the peri-operative process, role of anaesthesia and answer any questions you may have.

Anaesthetists are skilled professionals who in the first instance undergo an undergraduate medical degree followed by a number of years of thorough medical residency. I undertook  five year anaesthesia training on the Western Australian Program where I worked in major teaching institutions including Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal Perth Hospital. At Royal Perth Hospital, I had an opportunity to learn from leading airway specialists in the field of anaesthesia. For my fellowship year, I spent time in the Cardio-thoracic anaesthesia unit working in a highly skilled team.

Further fellowship and consultant clinical work

In Melbourne, I spent time in further fellowship training in Obstetric Anaesthesia. I continue to use those skills in various private hospitals and feel privileged to be a part of the team providing care during such an important family time. I have worked at Austin Health, which is a quaternary neurosurgical center. There, I worked with an innovative and highly professional neurosurgical team. This has resulted in a professional collaboration and a publication of a number of publications in Enhanced Recovery in Patients undergoing Surgery of the Spine.

Looking after your wellbeing during surgery.

So you can get back to enjoying your life.
